Before The Fall

Do you remember the story of Saul? The Israelites were desperate to have a king like the other nations, because of the lawlessness they were dealing with. The prophet Samuel warned them the ways of a king but they did not listen. So God told Samuel to make Saul the king. The Spirit of God came down on Saul and he became the first King of Israel. He was also a great warrior defeating many of Israel’s enemies. The people loved him; well most of them anyway. (We’ll save that part for another day)

Saul was on a pedestal until something happened. Saul and his men were preparing for another battle. He decided to give a burnt offering to The Lord. This was the moment that changed his reign over Israel. You’re probably asking what’s wrong with that. Saul was given a command from God through the prophet Samuel, to wait until Samuel arrived to make the offering. Saul was not authorized to make the offering. He was not from the tribe of Levi, which were the priests. So basically Saul overstepped his position. He thought he could do whatever he wanted because he was the king. It might seem like a small thing but I believe that is the point.

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much”

~Luke 16:10~

This was the beginning of the end for Saul. He thought because of his position, he did not have to listen to a simple command from God and took matters into his own hands. His pride led him down the path of destruction. Pride is something that can sneak up on you; sort of like a thief in the night.

We should ask ourselves at what point did our country take the turn towards the beginning of our downfall. Could it be when we started policing other sovereign nations? Or Meddling in other nation’s conflicts for the sake of our interests? Or depriving nations of basic necessities because they take a stand against our demands? Or could it be from within? Greed, Oppression, Manipulation, Corruption, Deception? Or when we removed God from our schools or workplace? Or possibly certain laws that were put into place without regard to who blessed this nation in the first place?

We have heard of Moab’s pride, how great is her arrogance!
of her conceit, her pride and her insolence; but her boasts are empty

~Isaiah 16:6~

We have the mightiest military on the planet with the greatest economy. Even some of our ghettos are the envy of many third world nations. Being an American comes with the pride of knowing we come from the greatest country on earth. But for how much longer…

Pride put this country on a path to destruction. Pride has blinded us to think we do not need God. You have to be completely in denial not to see it happening right before our eyes. Our cozy comfortable existence is shifting; and shifting fast. We are catching a glimpse of what the rest of the world has been going through. This is nothing and we can’t deal, because this is America. This is not supposed to happen here.

There have been many nations that have fallen throughout history. Egypt, Rome, Persia, British Empires and Soviet Union; just to name a few. All with some level of pride that led them to believe they were superior to other nations around them and not putting God first. The United States of America is not the exception.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! The Lord looks down from heaven; he sees all the children of man; from where he sits enthroned he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth, he who fashions the hearts of them all and observes all their deeds. The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength.

~Psalm 33:12-22~

At the end of the day, we as believers know that we are citizens of heaven first. However, we have been called to spread the gospel to the nations. Its time to step up and speak out. Enough with the fluffy stuff! You have been chosen for such a time as this! First it was a virus, food shortage, massive unemployment, now civil unrest. What’s next? Don’t take this lightly, because our adversary is prowling around.

Let’s pray for the rulers of this world! Let’s pray for the change that is in accordance with the will of God.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

~1 Peter 5:8~
