Finding Balance in Life – Give Careful Attention

Finding balance is a challenge, between work, ministry and mommy duties. Before the pandemic I could not keep a plant alive.  I would always forget to water them or not enough sunlight.  Basically you could call me a plant killer.  My schedule would not allow me to put in the time needed to care for them.

Once the pandemic hit, I discovered my love for gardening. I learned the proper methods to grow seeds, toil the soil, apply fertilizer etc. Everyday I check if there is rain in the forecast because that determines how much water I give my plants in the morning.  I learned the best time to prune is early in the morning, before the bees come.

Be sure you know the condition of your flocks, give careful attention to your herds.

~Proverbs 27:23~

The Farmer’s Almanac tells us the best time to plant and the best time to harvest in each season. Gardeners need to be diligent when it comes to the condition of their crops.  We have to  pay attention to the weather every day.  We know if each plant is healthy, if they need more sun or if they suffer from root rot.

Imagine if a gardener was not meticulous with the care of the plants; they would all die.  If we are not careful the weeds will grow and choke our fruit.

A little sleep, a little slumber,  a little folding of the hands to rest and poverty will come on you like a thief and scarcity like an armed man.

~Proverbs 24:33-34~

Finding Balance

Likewise, we must know the condition of everything God has entrusted to us.  Whether its ministry, careers, business, relationships or even our families.

It’s so easy for us to get caught up in the daily routine and miss the mark when it comes to what’s important.  Finding balance will give us peace of mind.

Ministry

Ministry means to serve God and to serve others by loving them and teaching the gospel.  Loving them as you care for their spiritual, physical and mental state.  It also means caring for their financial well-being.

Are you truly prepared to do all that the way it was intended to be?   Are you able to focus on an area where you can provide your time and make a real impact in someone’s life?  There are so many people that fall through the cracks under our care because we spread ourselves thin.  We can’t go after the one sheep if we don’t notice they wandered off due to busyness.

Friendships

The best friendships are when you can pick up right where you left off without any guilt or blame. Let’s be honest, not all friendships are that simple.  Busyness can also hinder meaningful relationships outside of our immediate family.  With so much on my plate, any alone time I can get, I take.  For the record, I don’t feel guilty about it and neither should you.

However, this is another area that we need to find a balance.  If a friendship is important to you then make sure you cultivate that relationship.  You don’t need to be in their face 24/7 but at least schedule a time to reach out, have dinner or a simple cup of coffee.  It doesn’t take much.

Careers & business

Careers and businesses need our attention like never before with technology and trends changing constantly.  Especially as you get older, you do not want to be counted out because you are behind with the latest technology. Stay up to date by taking online courses in your spare time.

There are books on every industry you can think of. You can also look up associations for your industry; their websites will offer a ton of resources. Stay on top of your game!

Family

Our family is our first ministry.  I repeat! Our family is our first ministry.  What good is it if we serve everyone else but our families suffer in the process?  Our lives should revolve around our kids; our kids should not revolve around our lives.  Before you know it our children will be grown and out the house raising their own families.

I’m not saying to stop everything you love to do, but there has to be a balance.  Ask the Lord for wisdom.  The worst thing for any parent to hear from a grown child is, they felt neglected while you are busy taking care of other people.

That goes for your marriage as well.  It’s common to have both husband and wife pursuing careers. Finding balance can go a long way in your marriage.  Go on dates, spend time together doing fun things, it makes a huge difference.

Do not stare at me because I am dark,  because I am darkened by the sun. My mother’s sons were angry with me and made me take care of the vineyards my own vineyard I had to neglect

~Song of Songs 1:6~

Our Heavenly Father

Our God is a jealous God, yet we find ourselves distracted with things of this world all the time. When worship, prayer and reading the Word is not a priority, we can fall back into old habits very quickly.

Give God your first fruits, does not only apply to money, it applies to your time too. He is there first thing in the morning ready to fellowship with you. When you seek Him and His righteousness first, all things will be added to you.

In other words, we get it right with God first and its easier to balance all areas of our lives. That is a promise and my God does not break His promises.

This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord
