Would you believe that having a lack of self-discipline is one of the biggest things that can cause you to fail in your life? That’s why we need to work hard to become self-disciplined.
Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control. (Proverbs 25:28)
Ouch! It may sound strong but let’s break it down for a moment.
You need self discipline to do pretty much anything in your life.
Self discipline is something that can be beneficial and can work for you in your ministry, your career, in your relationships, and in many aspects of your life.
What if we could tackle tasks no matter how big they are, and overcome them powerfully?
Through changes in habits and trying out new things, you could create a better version of yourself as you become self-disciplined.
Make A Commitment To Become Self-disciplined
If you really want to achieve your goals, then the best way to do it is to make a commitment to The Lord.
Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established. (Proverbs 16:3)
Before we can do anything, we need to take care of Kingdom business and then He will take care of our business.
Seek His guidance to help you in any area of your life.
Commitment isn’t necessarily a skill you have, it is something you do.
When a man makes a vow to the LORD or takes an oath to obligate himself by a pledge, he must not break his word but must do everything he said. (Numbers 30:2).
So making yourself accountable for it is a great way to become more disciplined in general.
Partner with someone that you trust to hold you accountable for certain tasks.
Your health and your commitment to good nutrition or your dedication to exercise and fitness. Or most importantly your commitment to The Lord.
Allow someone to let you know when you are going off course and see the difference it can make to how you react to different situations and circumstances.
This helps you also to keep a positive mindset. You will feel good about yourself when you keep your commitment to become self-disciplined.
Follow Through On Commitments
Making decisions ahead of time means that you have no choice but to follow through on your promises.
This is a great way to develop your self-discipline.
If you plan on exercising, then do it. If you want to complete a work project, then complete it.
No excuses, just action.
Without the skill of following through on your plans, then you have no discipline at all.
The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. (Ecclesiastes 7:8)
One Task At A Time
Doing just one thing at a time is a great way to become accountable for your actions.
Multi-tasking may be admirable, but if you can’t commit your whole self to one task, then you may not be completing anything to the best of your ability.
The plans of the diligent lead to profit as surely as haste leads to poverty. (Proverbs 21:5)
This is when prioritizing your day and giving yourself tasks to complete is a great way to place your focus on one thing and take your time.
You want to make sure it’s done right.
Enabling you to have the discipline to follow through and complete the task.
Everything falls in line with one another and each point raised in this article will help you in other areas of your life.
Stay Focused On Your Goals
A great tip to remain disciplined is to wake up each morning and review your goals for that day.
Make a plan of how you want to tackle the day. Pay attention to when you can do things and when you can complete them.
Think about the time it takes and the best time of the day in order to achieve your goals.
Attempt to do this every morning and make it a part of the routine that you have in place.
Choosing a quiet place and time to reflect on your personal goals.
It can actually be a part of your day that you learn to look forward to.
As you visualize your goals make sure you also visualize yourself ticking off and completing the tasks successfully.
Prioritize Your Goals To Become Self-Discipline
Learn how to prioritize. The first thing I do every day is wake up at 6 am, make my coffee and open my devotional.
Before we do anything in our day, we need to go to God first.
And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. (Mark 1:35)
This is another habit that can help you be more focused throughout the day and help with all your other goals.
Try and accomplish the harder and more stressful tasks first. It makes it much easier to complete the easier tasks later on.
I suggest reviewing your priority list daily since things can change from day to day.
The feeling of success and accomplishment will help you stay on course to become self-disciplined.
Change your mindset to Become Self-Disciplined
The way you think, is so important to how you discipline yourself.
to be made new in the attitude of your minds (Ephesians 4:23)
Being negative will have an instant effect on how you do things and when you do them.
You begin to choose not to want to complete your tasks, being disciplined in all of the wrong ways, and even heading down a road leading towards depression and anxiety.
A change in mindset is a great habit to accomplish.
Working on positive thoughts will automatically make life much more enjoyable.
It may seem hard at first, but once you get the hang of it, you will start to do it automatically.
If you are struggling with your mindset, try and figure out what might be causing you to feel that way.
Even controlling your emotions and having the discipline to control how you react to different circumstances and scenarios.
Eliminating the problem can often be the result and resolution you need to carry on.

Night Time Routine For Success
You ever get less sleep than usual and you can’t even recognize yourself. That’s why sleep is so important. I cannot stress this enough.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet. (Proverbs 3:24)
A Lot of times, it’s stress and anxiety that keeps us from having good sleep but The Lord says that our sleep will be sweet. That’s such a nice promise.
There is nothing better than discipling yourself to get an adequate amount of sleep.
It can be hard with lots going on in your life to take the necessary time out to rest up.
So it’s important to develop your own bedtime routine where you focus on switching off from the day.
A great tip is to shut off all technology during the evening, or at least one hour before you want to go to bed.
Instead, indulge in a warm bath, read a book and drink a hot drink. Camomile tea is especially good for helping you sleep at night.
Being disciplined also means developing other habits that run alongside it. A good idea is to start journaling before bed.
This can also be a way of mentally downloading what you have on your mind, ready for you to prioritize the next morning.
Become Self-disciplined With Food
It is not good to eat too much honey… (Proverbs 25:27)
If only my problem was eating too much honey but you get the point. Everything in moderation.
There is no hiding the fact that good nutrition means a healthy and smarter brain.
So it’s important to have a well-balanced diet when it comes to good nutritional health.
Ensuring that you are eating all the food groups and nourishing your body with what it needs to function.
Having more energy and feeling able to tackle the day is an excellent way to become self-disciplined with what you have and need to do.
Persistence is self-discipline in action
Whatever you do, don’t give up. Even if you messed up today, tomorrow is a new day.
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.
We all need motivation to remain enthusiastic about the tasks we have to do.
Celebrate your accomplishments; this can also help with your positive mindset.
I hope these tips help you to improve your self-discipline.
