Seasons Change – Recognize The Transition

Why do seasons change?  The earth’s axis is on a tilt, so the sun appears in the sky for different lengths of time at different seasons. The earth is like a spinning top that is tilted to one side, therefore, the angle of the sun’s rays change.

For example, the Northern Hemisphere has winter when the north pole is tilted away from the sun. In the summer, the south pole is tilted toward the sun, the direct rays of the sun heats up the earth more.

There is A Purpose As Season Change

Interestingly, we have our winter when the earth is closest to the sun, and summer when it’s further away.

Likewise, in our winter season, we tend to draw closer to God as we seek his face more. In our summer season, we tend to move further from God because we do not seek Him as we should.

Winter Season

The winter is a time of cuddling with your loved ones on the couch during movie nights or drinking hot chocolate after a snowball fight. It’s a time of holidays with food, family traditions, celebrations and New Year’s resolutions.

As a gardener, I’ve learned that winter is the time to plant seeds.  We think of winter seasons as barren but that is furthest from the truth.  If we change our mindset, we can look at it as a time to start fresh.

If you lost everything in this season, Praise God; it’s time for you to rebuild.  There is nothing more exciting than the upward motion of growth.

It’s also a time when many people suffer from the winter blues.  The holidays can be tough for some people that do not have family close by or they lost a loved one.  It can also be from SAD, Seasonal Affective Disorder, the lower level of natural sunlight can cause your serotonin levels to go down.  So put your coat on, go for a walk and get that vitamin D.

We tend to throw in the towel during our winter seasons.  Feelings of despair creep in and we think it’s going to last forever.  Spring feels so far away but you have to keep pushing through!

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we reap, if we do not give up.

~Galatians 6:9~

Spring Season

This a time of new beginnings, flowers bloom, trees bud, migrant birds return. It can be exciting except for those who suffer from seasonal allergies.

We begin venturing out the house more and soaking in the sun.  Generally, we smile more, feel happy and are more optimistic because the daylight hours have increased.   We are motivated to get fit and eat healthier.

All those seeds that were planted during the winter season are sprouting.

All your ideas and plans are on the path to fruition. This is the season where we see the beginning of growth in our walk.

See! The winter is past;  the rains are over and gone.

Flowers appear on the earth;  the season of singing has come,

The cooing of doves is heard in our land.

~Songs of Solomon 2:11-12~

Summer Season

Hot summer days, the smell of the charcoal on the grill, sand in between your toes or the sound of kids playing in the park. Summer is a time for vacations and relaxation.

Don’t relax too much, because this is the time to pull those weeds out.  Otherwise, the weeds will hinder the growth of your fruit

So be vigilant!  The fruit needs pruning and watering during the summer season.

This is the season to stay in your Word.  It’s so easy during the good times to steer clear from praying, worshiping and studying.  Our flesh tends to think that we don’t need God as much while we are enjoying good times.

On the contrary, we need to be diligent in maintaining our relationship with God. When the winter season comes we will be better equipped to endure whatever that season has for us.

Ants are creatures of little strength,

    yet they store up their food in the summer;

~Proverbs 30:25~

Autumn Season

The Fall or Autumn is my favorite season.  From sweater weather, pumpkin spice candles, Fall home decor, Mums, changing of the leaves and walking through the cooler air.

This is the harvest season, where we gather everything we worked hard for.   The seeds that we planted when it was cold and dark are ripe and ready.

However, this is not the time to sit back and do nothing.

As we reap the rewards we need to make a plan for the next cycle. This is the time to plan.

Those who sow with tears, will reap with songs of joy.

Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow,

will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them

~Psalm 126:5-6~

Transition As Seasons Change

I love the smell in the air when the seasons change.  It’s a time for changing everything from your wardrobe to home decor.  The same holds true for when our spiritual seasons change.

We are in constant transition; one season is preparation for the next.  Changing seasons are inevitable, they are set in motion.  We determine how we move into the next season. If we are in a harsh winter season, we must look toward the spring.

In other words, our minds want to dwell in a past season whether good or bad.  If we are going to grow we need to let go.  Dwelling on past hurts only causes anger and bitterness.

There is no time for bitterness, not in the current season we are in. We have too much to do and very little time as the seasons change.

When things get tough tell yourself “This too shall pass”, because it will.

Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See I am doing a new thing. Now it springs up, do you not perceive it?  I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.

~Isaiah 43:18~

  1. This was a great reminder for me! I tend to get stuck in ruts and fail to transition when God changes our season! I read this slowly–twice! 🙂 Thank you!

  2. I love this imagery and the comparison of our walk with God with the changing seasons! This is so relevant and it helps us take a closer look at where we are in our walk with God! Thank you for sharing it!

It is so true that we forget to rely upon the Lord during our summer seasons. I know what it is like to lose everything. However, have learned that winter doesn’t last forever . Thank you for the reminder of God’s faithfulness.

  5. This is so beautiful and enlightening! It’s good to know that every season is – and should be – a blessing, no matter what we might be going through!

    Thank you.

  6. I love this! Living in Northern Wisconsin, I love how you mentioned that the winter is actually the time to plant seeds. Just a few years ago, I started getting into gardening a bit, and have found that to be true – and it really DOES help get through the seeming darkness of winter! Thank you for this encouragement today. For everything, there truly is a season!

  7. Beautiful! What a great reminder that there is a season for everything and God is present in every single one. Even if we don’t feel it. Even if we question it. He is right there carrying us through each and every season.

  9. Seasons changing are beautiful and I love watching the summer fade into fall. But seasons in life changing are so hard for me. I’m so thankful for God’s grace during those times. There have been tough seasons in my life I never would have made it through without Him carrying me through!

  10. Changes are inevitable. Tomorrow is not known. By the grace of God, we manage to accept what comes. When we do not let go, we tie the Lord’s hands. Thank you for this great post.

  11. I love this post and the scriptures you added to each season. Transitions are not easy. But are constant. Praying God help us through life seasons.
