By taking care of ourselves, we can better serve God, our families, and our communities.
When we push ourselves too hard or ignore what our bodies need, it’s like neglecting a temple meant for worship.
Chronic stress, poor eating habits, and lack of rest can not only hurt our physical health but also our emotional and spiritual lives.
A tired, run-down body makes it harder to be present for prayer, relationships, or meaningful work.
Self-care helps us find balance, energy, and resilience so we can live fully for God.
The Bible and Self-Care
The Bible has so much wisdom when it comes to caring for our bodies.
Psalm 139:14 celebrates how “fearfully and wonderfully made” we are, calling us to honor the craftsmanship of God’s creation by treating our bodies well.
The Apostle Paul also instructs us to “honor God with your bodies” (1 Corinthians 6:20).
This isn’t just about avoiding harm; it’s about embracing good habits that nurture our whole selves; physically, mentally, and spiritually.

- Fruits – Full of vitamins, antioxidants, and fiber, fruits like apples, berries, oranges, and bananas provide essential nutrients that support immune function and digestion.
- Vegetables – Leafy greens like spinach, kale, and broccoli are packed with vitamins A, C, and K, as well as minerals like calcium and iron that strengthen our bones and body systems.
- Whole Grains – Brown rice, quinoa, oats, and whole-wheat bread are excellent sources of fiber and help regulate digestion and blood sugar levels.
