5 Steps to Change Your Mindset

There are steps to change your mindset. No matter how hard we try to not have a negative mindset, something can trigger a negative thought and the process can just spiral out of control.

Our mindsets can be fickle; but we know that we have complete control over it and we have the power to change our mindset.

So what do we do if we find ourselves heading down the wrong path when it comes to how we feel?

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5)

Here are some suggestions that could help you take captive your thoughts and feelings and get you back on track.

Walking Is Good For Mental Health

You would be surprised at the benefits of walking to clear your mind and change your mindset.

I would recommend walking without your Airpods just so you can listen to every little bird and swish of the wind around you.

Those natural sounds are so therapeutic. It’s a great way to hear what The Lord has to say to you.

The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.” Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. (1 Kings 19:11-12)

In the midst of all the drama around you God will speak to you in a gentle whisper.  It only takes one word from our Heavenly Father to make everything change.

Change Your Mindset With Exercise

We all know that exercise can give you that rush of endorphins that give you a buzz and make you feel fantastic.

the word says our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19) so we have a responsibility to care for it.

we don’t realize enough that it is the positive impact on our mindset that we see the biggest difference.

Sure, exercise is good for you anyway, and it is part of a healthier lifestyle, but being active can often be low on the priority list as you start to think about other things that you need to do.

Make it part of your routine, any form of exercise will do.  You can even join a gym or get a workout partner.

The small changes that you can make to implement exercise into your lifestyle can help you to change your mindset and go on the right path.

Here are some exercise ideas:
  • Pilates – it’s a great alternative to yoga that focuses on your core.  That’s where all the Stress get stored.
  • Swimming – you can tone up those muscles without weights and it can be very relaxing.
  • Hiking – similar to walking but in higher elevations.
  • Zumba – there is no way to not be happy after taking a zumba class.

Journal To Change Your Mindset

Journal to Change Your mindset

If you feel like you are being more negative than you normally would, it may be a good idea to sit down with those thoughts and explore the feelings through journaling.

Play some soft music in the background, grab your bible and a notebook.  Then go crazy with your pen.

There might be something in your life that is triggering these thoughts and negative emotions that can be dealt with so you can change your mindset.

A toxic relationship, a friendship that isn’t good for you, your career, or stress levels.

Explore the feelings by writing so that you can see it on paper and make some positive decisions for change.

You may not realize that there is something or someone in your life that needs to go.  Let the Lord speak to you through your writing.

Change Your Lifestyle

Finally, your lifestyle could be having a negative effect on your mindset, so it may be time to look at making some changes.

We have already discussed the value of exercise, but what about the food you eat?

Are you nourishing your body with what it needs to function? Perhaps you are not getting enough sleep, or keep waking up?

Or maybe it’s the company you keep.  That could have a major impact on your mindset.

You want to be around like-minded people that are positive and speak life to you.

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. (Proverbs 18:21)

You don’t need anyone around you that is really not for you. Period.

Minister To Yourself

Read daily devotionals that remind you that you are more than a conqueror and God’s masterpiece.

If you put your focus on the Living Word of God you will change your mindset.

There are so many hidden treasures in the bible that will make you realize who you are!  You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood.

When you get these truths in your spirit there is a major shift that takes place.

It’s not to say that you will never have a bad day but you have the word of God to lean on.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2)

Your lifestyle can be changed in many different ways. You just need to take the first step to change your mindset.

I wear many hats; Wife, Mom, Minister, Blogger and Entrepreneur.

It’s not easy juggling everything but with the Grace of God, I can do all things!

My plate is full but my cup runneth over!!

  9. Your suggestions are very good, to change our mindset we need to practice positive things. Something that I really like of this post were the Bible verses that you included, especially the last one (Romans 12:2). Thank you very much!

I like how you say that we have a responsibility to care for our bodies. It feels empowering because we do have the ability to make the right choices for ourselves. Thank you for sharing these steps!

  11. You have some really good suggestions here. I especially like the part about walking without earbuds so we can hear the “still small voice” of God.
